A sprain, strain or tendon and ligament damage are injuries that are often easily done, we have some aromatherapy blends and products that may be helpful for you.

This topic has come to my mind after one of my best friends experienced a nasty sprain.

Our own comfrey macerate is extremely useful for a sprain or a strain and also for tendon and ligament damage.  If you are making up a blend I would recommend using that as your base oil (our comfrey is macerated in organic sunflower oil).

Comfrey has been used since ancient times for its anti-inflammatory properties.  It can also be very useful when you need speedier healing for tendon and ligament damage.  It was also found to have cell regeneration properties.

You can use the comfrey macerate on its own, but you may prefer to add essential oils.  You could choose to add anti-inflammatory oils such as german chamomile, helichrysum.

Or analgesic oils such as  black pepper. sweet marjoram & lavender.  A possible blend to apply would be:   30ml (approx a dessert spoon) add 5 drops german chamomile, 6 drops lavender, 4 drops sweet majoram.  This would provide quite a number of applications.

Another blend could be:  30ml comfrey macerate with 6 drops of lavender, 4 drops of german chamomile, 3 drops of black pepper, 2 drops of lemongrass.  My advice to my clients is not to miss an application before bedtime as when we are resting/sleeping.  That is when the body restores itself best.

Ready made Products

If you prefer to have a products ready made for application our comfrey ointment is perfect.   It has been used by many clients over the years for sprains, strains, tendon and ligament damage.  The majority of customers who have used both the comfrey macerate and the comfrey ointment, say that they find that they comfrey ointment most user-friendly as it is in a solid format.

Our new product from 2015, the Skin SOS Balm may also be helpful.  It is also now often being used by customers, not only for skin issues.  Due to the comfrey, lavender, helichrysum and german chamomile ingredients, it has been reported to be helpful for sprains, etc.  Again the skin SOS balm is in a solid format and easy to apply.

For its analgesic properties our Muscle Rub gel can also be helpful.  Some customers have reported a great synergy by using the muscle rub gel onto the sprain, strain, ligament or tendon damage.  That would then be followed by either the comfrey ointment or the skin SOS balm on top.  The muscle rub is quickly absorbed into the skin and allows easy application of the ointment or balm.

Of course,  if the injury requires medical attention, this is always recommended.

If you have a complex medical history/medications or are pregnant always check with your GP before using essential oils, or ask a qualified aromatherapist
