Product Details

In ancient times comfrey was called 'knitbone',' all heal' or 'woundwort' and has been used topically for many years for cuts, bruises, fractures, sprains, injured tendons/ligaments, sores and skin ulcers.

On the skin, it is an emollient, soothing and was used for scars and blemishes. It was also said to promote a youthful complexion. The Latin name 'symphytum' means 'heal together'. It is now believed that the allatoin (a main component of comfrey) is responsible for the growth and multiplication of skin cells.

The comfrey used in this ointment we do entirely from plant to jar. It is harvested by hand from a controlled piece of private ground in a rural area of Aberdeenshire. Only the most perfect leaves are selected for optimum efficacy and slowly macerated (cold process) in organic sunflower oil.

The ointment we create is a luscious green colour from the herb and has a wonderful feel on skin. Enjoy the nourishing combination of wildcrafted and organic vegetable oils and soothing organic lavender essential oil. The recipe is completed by organic beeswax which adds further protection for your skin.

Available in four sizes: 15ml - £3.75, 30ml - £5.75, 60ml - £7.99 and 120ml - £13.50

The jars are glass and the lids aluminium - all recyclable!

"I have experienced achillies tendonitis for over 20years. Pain relief and anti inflammatory medication had no effect. I have recently been applying comfery cream/ointment to the tendon area and quess what, cured! Swelling gone and for the first time in over 20 years, pain free. I would recommend comfrey to anyone experiencing similar problems." J.B. Northumberland.

"We use comfrey for so many things here! My wife absolutely swears by it as a nail fortifier, she rubs a little of your comfrey ointment into her nails every night before bed and, after a lifetime of this problem, they have completely stopped cracking and breaking. I use it all the time on scrapes and cuts I get from my DIY dabblings, and now I've discovered that it's the perfect (and industry approved!) cream for tattoo after-care" C Robertson, Paris, France.

"Thank you so much for a fast delivery, excellent customer service and last but certainly not least.... fabulous products!!! The Comfrey ointment has had good results when applying it to our dogs paw pad, which she had sliced quite deeply on glass. It wasn't showing any signs of healing and i was preparing myself for a hefty vets bill as i was beginning to think it would actually need stitching.....but i stumbled across the website and thought i would give it a go, since it had such good reviews.... i haven't been disappointed. Her wound has healed very quickly since using the Comfrey. I could notice the difference over night and after four days its completely healed. Fantastic jars of magic that everyone should have in their cupboard. I will recommend these to everyone". F Hopkins, Solihull, West Midlands.

From Daily Mail 26 Jan 2010: " A cream made from the herb comfrey could be as good as over-the-counter painkillers for treating sprained ankles, says a new study. In one Italian trial, comfrey ointment was as effective as the anti-inflammatory gel diclofenac on pain, swelling, movement and tenderness. Results from further U.S. studies have led researchers to believe ointments based on the herb might also work for back pain and other painful joint problems, such as osteoarthritis."
