I am delighted to say that the comfrey harvest is finished for this year and the comfrey oil macerate is almost ready. It has been extremely sunny and warm and so we had to move pretty fast to get the plants at their optimum. I had to pretty much drop everything else I was doing and focus on getting the harvest in.
I still managed to enjoy the outside location and the beauty of the rural spot where we gather each year, even with the rush to get the leaves picked. There is always so many bees just loving the comfrey flowers. I also love the challenge of getting a close up picture or video of the bees in action each year.
Because it was so sunny and warm for an extended period with little water the plants were lower than they were last year, not so high. This does not affect the quality of the leaves though. I have seen the plants as low as this before, but not very often that is for sure. Usually we are desperately looking for dry days to get out there to pick the leaves. We had the opposite problem this year!
I am now slowly processing the macerate into storage for use as an ingredient in our products.
Huge Demand
As last year we ran out of the comfrey leaves macerated in olive within a few weeks of it going online. It was done in two small batches last year. I have allocated double this year for the macerate only. Our problem is that I need the leaves and macerate as an ingredient in the products. Because the comfrey products are incredibly popular and are the mainstay of the business. I can only allocate a small amount to sell as the comfrey oil macerate.
We started taking pre-orders last week for the comfrey macerated in olive, as some customers were disappointed last year. Customers were going online to buy when it was already fully sold out. So we thought it a great idea to offer a pre-order. Hopefully this will ensure that all regular customers can access the comfrey oil macerate.
